Poker is a card game that is played by a number of players. The goal is to win by making the highest ranked hand out of the cards that are dealt. While there are a few variations, the basic rules remain the same.<\/p>\n
Players place bets on their hands in a series of betting rounds. When a player folds, his or her hand is removed from play. A player may also bluff by betting that he or she has the best hand.<\/p>\n
Poker is usually played using a 52-card pack. Some versions use a wild card. If two or more identical poker hands tie, the highest unmatched card is used to break the tie.<\/p>\n
Most games have an ante. The ante is a sum of money that each player must pay before they can bet. Depending on the stakes of the game, the ante can be as low as one dollar or as high as several hundred dollars.<\/p>\n
The game begins with the dealer dealing cards to the first player. These cards are face up.<\/p>\n
Each player then bets a certain amount into the pot. This bet is then gathered into a central pot. As bets are placed into the pot, they are added to the total that the last player made.<\/p>\n
As betting progresses, some cards are dealt face up. For example, in seven-card stud, a two extra cards are dealt to each player.<\/p>\n
